Weber grill Following a recent move we unpacked our weber grill and found that it does not ignite, either using the ignition switch or a match. Could it be that something came loose during the move? How do we troubleshoot a propane gas grill that does not ignite?

Can you tell if the gas is flowing? Its either dirty or perhaps your regulator got damaged.  I'd check that out.  Above all else, though, be careful!

I am smelling propane at the cooking surface when I turn the burner knob to the ignite position. I have been unable to determine the source of the leak. We've had the grill for a couple of years and have never had a problem but we recently moved (December) and I'm wonder if something was jarred loose during the move.

When the knob is in the ignite position, the gas should be coming out of the burners at a rate sufficient enough to light. It's normal to smell it before the igniter (either electric or push-button) ignites the gas. If you recently moved the grill with the internal parts still inside it, it's quite possible the burner tubes have become loose in the holders. They are quite easy to remove because they are a commonly replaced component. Remove the grates and flavorizer bars according to your manual, and you should be able to reach in and check the position and snugness of the burner tubes. Make sure you close the propane valve and disconnect the tank before doing this. Also, don't smoke when working on your grill. :)

Hi, I have just bought a Weber 100 BBQ. I have a

You have a couple of questions. In order: 1. Flame may not be visible because it burns very clean. 2. When they say 'turn gas off', they actually mean 'turn gas tank off'. 3. It's not necessary to remove the tank after every use. Just make sure the gas valve is off and the entire grill and tank are covered. I do remove the tank, and store it in an outdoor shed during the winter.

Igniter Stopped working

Igniter could be shot. Take out igniter and put near something metal. Push button to see if sparks occur. If not igniter is no good. If this works, the end of wire that is near wear the igniter sparks to light grill could be to far away from metal, bend to get closer to metal, so it will spark, or end could be covered with grease, clean end and try for spark again.

Ignite prob I have 3 yr old Silver B Weber. This is first yr I've kept covered outside all winter. (snow & rain, Indiana) Now I'm trying to use 1st time since last fall. When I turn on gas (full tank), open burner valve, ignite spark. Nothing! When I use manual fire lighter just the first (front burner) ignites (other 3 burners don't ignite when valves opened). Is there a method to clean out burners or something? Need new spark igniter?

You've got two different things going on.  First - the type of igniter used on your model does wear.  I have had mine for over 10 years and have gone through 3 such igniters - and I grill nearly 3 times per week over the 25 week "grilling" season where I live. Spring for the $12 part and just replace it. The other issue sounds like a clogged cross-over system.  I would remove the burners, including the cross-over bar on the far left side that connects them.  Clean the exterior with a stiff steel/brass brush and the inside with a bottle brush.  Make sure all the holes are clear to allow gas to flow easily - use a wooden tooth-pick to do this to make sure you don't change the size of the holes! Put that baby back together and I think you'll find you'll be good as new! These grills are great.  Now, if Weber could only fix the uneven heat problem between the left and right side I'd REALLY be happy!  (I wish they would even just admit there IS a problem!) Good luck and happy grilling.

We just purchased a Kenmore gas BBQ and the electronic ignition is not working. The battery is installed as shown but the orange wire was not attached. We plugged it in but it still will not work. Is there a possibility something came loose during transport? We're not sure what else to try.

There has to be a complete electricl circuit from the igniter through the wire and to the electrode for a spark to jump the gap between the end of the electrode and the burner or hood and ignite the gas. I sure you already have, but make sure the battery is in correclty. and that all wires are attached. Take out the cooking grates and the flame tamers so you can see the end of the electrode and make sure it is not touching anything or there will not be a gap for the spark to jump.
