Periodicly I won'y be able to get the grill temp to over 200 degrees. sometimes it is ok and can reach as high as 500 degrees other times it will just not generate enough heat to grill. This is a five burner brinkman less than a yr old

Zonfish - if you're tuning the gas tank off at each use, as you should. The problem lies in your grill's gas regulator, but it also is not a big deal and is easily solved.Whenever, you open the tank valve, do it VERY, VERY, SLOWLY (Slow Motion, slow), until it is fully open. Then light the burners. What happens is this, LP Gas Grill Tanks are now equipped with an Overfill Protection Device ("OPD"). And often time, when you turn the valve on like you would normally do, the OPD Valve sends a hot load of gas to your grill's regulator and partially locks it up or locks up entirely. Therefore, the burners are not getting enough gas to heat the unit up to 500 degrees. Opening the valve very, very, slowly, overcomes this problem.I hope this helped you and Happy Grilling.

Low gas flow - low heat

Hi Lyon,Yeah, it's the regulator. Fortunately, they're cheap and easy to replace! You can look on line for part number 80012. Or you can remove yours and take it to Home Depot or Lowe's in the outdoor cooking area and match up a replacement. <--- they're all the same... just make sure the compression fitting (the brass end) is the same size. The only other thing I could recommend is this... Turn the LP bottle completely off. Then completely remove the big plastic knurled knob from the tank. Now replace the knob back onto the tank (all the way and make sure it's tight). Then S L O W L Y turn the gas back on. Now try your pit. If you get the same flame, it's the regulator. If you get full flame, you just reset the safety device inside the tank. I'm betting regulator. Good luck and happy cookin'!SG

STS Turbo heat problem

Problem solved. The store FINALLY sent someone out who knows what they're doing. After about a hour of adjusting and tweaking he got it working fine. Apparently, the adjustments have to be made with the grill partially disassembled so flames can be viewed from top and bottom. Also, it needs to be load balanced with adjusting with all burners on, then with fewer and fewer burners on. Dan B.

Flame is too small, does not get hot enough.

This sounds like it probably is a regulator problem - they tend to corrode very quickly in salt environment - i live on the coast too and have the same problem often. First thing to try is to spray a little WD40 or similar into the regulator. often they will have a tiny hole somewhere in the body of the regulator usually on the side away from the gas bottle but there are many different types - spray in this hole in particular. Then give the regulator a bit of gentle violence - often the spring plate inside can stick or the valve itself and this can free it up. No luck with this then get a new regulator - they are not usually expensive - make sure the regulator is the correct type for the gas you are using, they have different pressure settings for propane, butane, and all the assorted mixes. The sticky left Knob is unlikely to affect the gas flow, although there must be some corrosion to make it hard to turn so it is possible that this has gone into the valve/pipe behind the knob - sometimes these valves can be dismantled and cleaned fairly easily, some are sealed units that just have to be replaced - if you want to try and are not sure what to do, try posting back with some photos and i could try and talk you through it, or try getting me on a live chat armed with photos, some WD40 and a selection of basic tools and some steel wire wool (stainless if possible). Hope this helps and we can get you grilling for the summer, please ask again if not :)

All of the sudden my grill will only heat up to around 350 degrees. It is about a year old and has worked flawlessly up till now. It lights and the flames seem to be coming out of all burners but just not high enough to really get the grill hot enough to sear a steak.
