Expensive TEC Grill Problem with Blowout After Ignition

HI nabber8391, I have a TEC Pattio II. I have owned the grill for almost 10 years and TEC grills have a ten year warranty on many of the parts including the burners. The burners on my grill have a ceramic inserts. The pop and loud whooshing noises indicate the ceramic insert or the seal on the burner is "cracked". I have replaced both of the inserts and burners on my grill once about 5 years ago under warranty. I have one burner now that will not stay burning and I contacted TEC today regarding the problem, and I will replace the ceramic insert only under warranty. . The newest TEC grills like yours have the TEC Radiant Glass Infra-red Cooking System with stainless steel burners with glass surfaces. I assumed this burner system had eliminated the problem of the burners going out with a loud boom. YOUR ONLY OPTION IS TO CONTACT THE CUSTOMER SERVICE GROUP AT TEC. THE TELEPHONE NUMBER IS 1-800-331-0097. TEC IS LOCATED IN COLUMBIA SC. TEC HAS A USEFUL WEBSITE. By the way, I paid $1400 for my TEC grill in 1999, but I believe the new TEC grills are better. I know I would not buy any other brand. One other thought, it is imperative that cleaning instructions are followed.

My grill won't light, and I don't hear gas running

I had the same problem with my grill once last year and again this year. I installed the tank on my son's grill and it worked perfectly. Try replacing the regulator, it worked for me.

Tec Grill Sterling Model won't stay lit

The dealer is right. The ceramic burner is cracked. It will need to be replaced -- pretty pricey. I have the same problem on my Sterling III. This DOES happen too often. My opinion is that this IS a manufacturing defect. I have called the company about it (they are in South Carolina) and they try to blame the user -- that would be us. Very unfortunate company chooses to act this way. You hear about this problem again and again and again -- it's their problem but sadly, they are making it ours. Remember that when you go grill shopping next time -- I know I won't buy a Sterling grill again. Ever.

My coleman roadtrip grill is new/unused. I followed all the directions for set up the propane tank and the burners will not light. i can't hear anything and it seems like the propane is just not making its way to the burner. i've taken it on and off and read the instructions over and over, but i can't get the burners to light. help!

If you don't mind turning OFF the tank vale and disconnecting the hose one more time, follow these instructions.Starting with the tank valve Off and the hose disconnected, turn the burners on for 1 minute and then turn them OFF. Wait 4 more minutes, reconnect the hose to the tank and turn the tank valve ON VERY, VERY SLOWLY. (Slow motion, slow). Once the valve is full open, light one burner and turn it to it's highest setting. Is the burner lit and burning? Does the flame height look correct? If so, light the remaining burner, repeating what you did with the first burner. Does this burner's flame height look correct? If so, you solved the problem. If it didn't solve the problem, check to be sure, there's actually enough gas in the tank to sustain combustion. If that checks out alright, you have two options. 1.The grill is still under warranty, contact Coleman for repairs or replacement 2. Depending on how long ago your bought it, return it to the place of purchase for a refund or replacement. In either scenario, you will need your Proof of Purchase. If you completed everything I suggested and the burners still aren't getting gas, it's a case of manufacturer defect. And yes, it does happen.Good luck. I sincerely hope it all works out for you and you solve the problem.

I have a only used 2x fire and ice. I have everything connected to a large propane tank. i can hear gas when i turn on but it will not light. what do or can i do.

Shut off the propane tank and see if your regulator tube is blocked. If not blocked it could be that one has to have either regulators open to allow the gas to go through and wait for the count of 5 before hitting the ignite button.

Can not adjust flame.

It sounds like the grill just needs a good cleaning, plus when you do clean it check that the burner tubes and orfaces are free of any debris. The orface is a tiny hole inside a small brass threaded insert where the gas blows through into the burner tubes, it is very critical that this is clear as well as the burner tubes.
