I converted to gas. I can still remove my conversion kit in only a couple of montes. I do use a small wood box to generate some smoke on front end of process. One of cons is you can't cook higher than about 300 degrees because smokee burners are low heat. You also don't have the flame next to food. The burner rests in bottom of egg where ashes generally fall. The pipe or galvanized gas line exits the bottom vent door. You need to be cautious with cooking process. Make sure lines are tightened and properly sealed. Make sure rubber gas lines are far from flames. Always light and relight BGE with lid open to avoid blowing up yourself or BGE (been there done that) other than that, the cooling experience is a dream

I sometimes get a lot of smoke in my large BGE. It makes the food taste too smoky.


If you're not intending to use the your Egg as a smoker for some foods and are attempting to grill them instead, you should leave the top open.If in fact, you're using it as a smoker, you need to open the lower damper door a bit more and open the top vent a bit more too. That way, the smokey flavor should not be that over powering.
