You had the burners on before you opened the valve on the propane tank. this causes the safety in the pressure regulator to cut off most of flow, and the highest temp you'll get will be about 200 degrees. turn off the burners and the tank, then disconnect the tank and let site for a few minutes. reconnect everything, and make sure you open the tank valve before the burner valves.

I Have a genesis grill from 2008. I can not get enough heat to sear a steak correctly. I was informed to close the grill when cooking, however the meat cooks at the top as well as the bottom. The end product is tough meat. Help

Have you checked the flame heights when turned to HIGH, on all the main burners. If they're low, then that's the problem. Which can be caused by several things: Burners need cleaning. The Venturi valves are clogged. The grill's regulator is partially closed.I'm pretty sure you know how to solve the first to causes. So, I'll only deal with the third one.Turn the propane tank valve OFF. Disconnect the hose from the tank and wait 5 minutes. Then reconnect the hose to the tank and turn the tank valve ON VERY, VERY SLOWLY (Slow motion, slow). Once the valve is fully open, light the burner farthest from the tank first and turn it to HIGH. Does the flame height look correct? If so, light the remaining burners the same way and check their flame height. Do all of them look correct? If so, you solved the problem. Remember to always turn the tank valve ON very, very slowly. If that didn't solve the problem your need to replace your hose/regulator assembly. You can get one at any home center or hardware store that sells gas grills and accessories. Take you old one with you for comparison purposes.Hope this helped you troubleshoot and solve the problem. Please let me know. Thanks.

Have used cottonwoods on smokey joe twice now and each time the briquettes have lost their heat within minutes. Tried using the Weber rapid lighter and they heated up beautifully but as soon as they were put in the BBQ lost their heat. We've never had a problem with briquettes and have been cooking on BBQ's for about 40 years. Is there a special technique when using cottonwood?

I've only used Cotton Wood twice. The first time, I had the same experience. The second time, I added a few pieces of all natural, lump charcoal and it kept the Cotton Wood burning at the proper temperature. I suspect the same procedure will work for you.Happy Grilling!!

You have a couple of questions. In order: 1. Flame may not be visible because it burns very clean. 2. When they say 'turn gas off', they actually mean 'turn gas tank off'. 3. It's not necessary to remove the tank after every use. Just make sure the gas valve is off and the entire grill and tank are covered. I do remove the tank, and store it in an outdoor shed during the winter.

We currently have a Frigidaire BBQ, model GL30LKEC. The problem is, it won't retain the heat. The temperature gets up to 300 degrees, but half way through cooking, it drops to 200 degrees and won't get back up. The bbq itself is in great shape.

Sounds like a problem with either the regulator or the burners themselves. Is it fully fueled? Visit and speak with the techs there. They should be able to help.
