Guide :Grilling : CharBroil 4637318 Grill

We bought our grill last summer and it worked fine. When we got it out of the garage this summer and replaced the gas, it wouldn't start. We can smell the gas so we know it is reaching the burners.

This sounds like an ignitor problem to me. You could replace the ignitor or you could light with a match. Most of these grills have an access point usually on the right side to light the burners with a match just make sure you light the match first and hold it into the access point before you turn the gas on.

Problem with gas getting to the front burner

Follow manufacturer's recommendation in resetting the excess flow safety device....(Turn burners and LP cylinder off...Disconnect regulator on cylinder. Turn both knobs to high for at least one minute...Then turn them to off...reconnect the regulator to the LP tank...Turn LP valve VERY slowly (30 seconds) until fully opened..then start the grill in the usual manner. ALWAYS TURN THE LP TANK OFF WHEN DONE USING THE GRILL....

I have a 3 or 4 year old Genesis Three Burner Weber Grill. The grill when turned on would only get up to about 250 to 300 degrees. I bought a new regulator and hose and it seems no gas was going to the flame tubes . . . no smell of gas. I bought another regulator and hose and no gas again. Then I turned the gas tank valve on slowly and the gas came out. I got the temperature up to 550 degrees. Great! The next time I turned the gas on and tried to start the grill, again, no gas flowing. I turned the tank valve on slowly several times but to no avail. What is the problem? Thanks, Alan

The gas in the bottle is not a just pure gas but it is contain also very small quantities of oils and dirt. So with long time use they are creating a thin layer over regulator and valve parts, like springs and injector rods which make them to stuck. This what is happening with th tank gas valve which you may turn the regulator but the inside parts are stuck. Sometimes if you hit a litle bit it can work again but this is not a solution. The solution is to replace the tank gas valve with new one. Also you should know that since you have this problem with tank valve then most posible to have also some problem with burners gas valves in the future. One way to avoid this and also with the new tank valve is when you realise that the gas tank is almost empty the is better to replace the tank since the last gas in geting out the most of the above mention oil and dirt and end on the valves.

I recently purchased a Charbroil 463270309 CB Outdoor Gas Grill that I converted to natural gas. Not only am I somewhat new to the world of BBQ (briquets) but I am completely clueless about using a gas grill. The top grill area (where the meat sits) is directly over the gas burners and I am concerned about the fat and meat juices dripping and clogging them. Also, is there a way to add mesquite flavor? Are there any good books that you would recommend that would give me instructions and explain my options? I love BBQ so much and I want to get started using it but I don't want to jump into this without instructions and then end up ruining my new grill. Thanks so much for your help!! Wish I could thank you by having you over for some BBQ when I get it figured out! :-)

Jamie, grilling can really be fun and rewarding, There is a slight learning curve and there may be a charred steak or two, but that's part of the learning experience.First, let me address the a couple of things for you. You DO NOT use briquet's of any sort with this grill.The other concern you had was the meat juices dripping down onto the burners and clogging them. Unless you're missing some parts ... there should be 4- metal tent looking parts called Flame Tamers or Flavorisers (depends on who the manufacturer is) that sit over top of each burner and prevents grease from getting directly on the burner. Once hot, the grease vaporises when it hits these and sends the juicy flavor back to whatever you're grilling. It also helps prevent flare ups to a point.Since you're new at gas grilling, one of the most important things is properly preheating the grill , with the hood/lid closed. This may take any where from 15 to 30 minutes, depending on how hot you want the grill surface. In your case, since it's a Natural Gas Grill, it will take bit longer to preheat, as compared to a Propane Gas Grill. That's because, Propane burns cleaner and hotter in an outdoor environment , than Natural Gas.As far as recipes and grilling tips are concerned, there are some in your Owners Manualhttp://www.charbroil.com/bps/char-broil/char-broil/knowledge/463270309%20english_bbd9e378-7_.pdf as well as http://www.charbroil.com/Support/CookingGuides.aspx?cid=13&name=General-Guides. Watching Food Network, can provide you with a wealth of information from shows like "Down Home with the Neally's", "Boy Meets Grill " with Bobby Flay, as well as "Good Eats" with Alton Brown.If there is one other thing to point out, it's cleaning and maintaining your grill. If you stay ahead on the cleaning, it won't be such a chore. Generally, I recommend using a brass bristle grill brush, dipped in cold water, to clean the grates right after you've finished grilling. The burners are OFF but, the grill grates are still hot. Dip the grill brush in cold water and run the brush across the grates. The steam this generates will clean the grease right off. And it only take a few swipes and about 3 minutes to complete. Oh, one other thing ...If you haven't already, invest in a high quality cover for you grill. Believe me, the investment is worth it's weight in gold..Well, I hope all of this has proved to be informational and that you will come to enjoy grilling.Good luck to you and Happy Grilling!!

Grill won't start

If your sure the propane tank is full, and the valve is open, (counter clockwise, and the control knob is on? you should not only smell it after 20 seconds, but if you put your ear near the grill you should hear a sound like air leaking.If you hear nothing and smell nothing, good chance there is a blockage in the line, or the burner holes are filled with drippings. First off, get a wire brush and scrub the burners where you see the small holes that the flame normally comes out of, then try the grill again, if still nothing (and your 100% sure the tank is full, the tank is on, and the control knob is on high) you may need to start taking apart the grill, looking for a blockage, many times its below the control knob where you will see an adjustable screen, spider webs and such will get in there and block the flow. Remember to not do any of that with the tank on the grill, remove the tank first.;

My husband and I inherited a Charbroil gas grill (model # 4639171) from his mother. There is no flame diffuser, heat plate, or lava rocks over the burners. It is difficult to cook on because anything over the flames scorches, even on low. I can not find any information on whether this grill takes a heat plate or lava rocks, and the charbroil website doesn't list anything that seems like the right part in the parts list. I need to know if I should order a 'universal heat plate' or some lava rock stuff.

I searched my parts catalog for your model number and came up empty. I believe that I may have parts that will work for you. The closet model number to what you have listed is #4639122. This model takes the angle shaped flame tamers. This model also lists a briquette grate. You can go to my website, www.minxenterprisesinc.com and check out this model number and it will give you dimensions for the parts. You can see if they will fit. I would not get lava rock, purchase either ceramic or porcelian briquettes, as they work much better.
