Expensive TEC Grill Problem with Blowout After Ignition

HI nabber8391, I have a TEC Pattio II. I have owned the grill for almost 10 years and TEC grills have a ten year warranty on many of the parts including the burners. The burners on my grill have a ceramic inserts. The pop and loud whooshing noises indicate the ceramic insert or the seal on the burner is "cracked". I have replaced both of the inserts and burners on my grill once about 5 years ago under warranty. I have one burner now that will not stay burning and I contacted TEC today regarding the problem, and I will replace the ceramic insert only under warranty. . The newest TEC grills like yours have the TEC Radiant Glass Infra-red Cooking System with stainless steel burners with glass surfaces. I assumed this burner system had eliminated the problem of the burners going out with a loud boom. YOUR ONLY OPTION IS TO CONTACT THE CUSTOMER SERVICE GROUP AT TEC. THE TELEPHONE NUMBER IS 1-800-331-0097. TEC IS LOCATED IN COLUMBIA SC. TEC HAS A USEFUL WEBSITE. By the way, I paid $1400 for my TEC grill in 1999, but I believe the new TEC grills are better. I know I would not buy any other brand. One other thought, it is imperative that cleaning instructions are followed.

Tec Grill Sterling Model won't stay lit

The dealer is right. The ceramic burner is cracked. It will need to be replaced -- pretty pricey. I have the same problem on my Sterling III. This DOES happen too often. My opinion is that this IS a manufacturing defect. I have called the company about it (they are in South Carolina) and they try to blame the user -- that would be us. Very unfortunate company chooses to act this way. You hear about this problem again and again and again -- it's their problem but sadly, they are making it ours. Remember that when you go grill shopping next time -- I know I won't buy a Sterling grill again. Ever.

None of my igniters on my 30400043 Ducane grill will light the burners. I've had a grease fire due to the burners rusting out and replaced the burners. The insulation on the wires to the igniters has burned off. Do I need to buy a whole new manifold or is there replacements for the igniters? Do the clickers go bad? I'm very disappointed. I bought this grill 3 years ago thinking it's the last I'd have to buy and here I am replacing parts 3 years later. I also don't think the infra red elements are getting hot enough. When running they can be blown out. I don't use them often and have run it for 45 min or so and got a steady flame. I'll try the rotisserie tomorrow. It'd be a shame to waste a good piece of meat. Anyone else having these problems? Got solutions?

As I tell customers, when they ask me, "How long will this grill last?" "That depends on well you take care of it with routine maintenance and cleaning."The wiring for the electronic ignition and the spark ignitors are replaceable. The ignitor button or the "clicker" as you called is replaceable. But all you may to do, is change the battery inside the igniter button. To help you further, i have included a link to the Owner's Manual for your grill. It will have an exploded view of the parts, which should help you identify them by part number and order them from Ducane, if you like. far as the infrared burners are concerned, they blow out easily if the wind is just blowing slightly. That's why they have a thermocouple on the burner, to turn the gas off to it, when it gets blown out. When preheating an infrared burner, the hood/lid of the grill should be closed.I hope this helped you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

I replaced an ignition switch on my grill and again it is not functioning. It has new batteries but no clicking or igniting any of the spark ignitors. Is it still an ignition switch problem or could there be something else that is affecting or burning out my ignition switch?

First off, is the battery installed in the proper position. The positive (+) end should be facing out. I that's not the problem, check the ground wire to make sure it is connected solidly and no rust in underneath it. Then check all the wires to each ignitor , making sure they are not damaged.

Ignition Since I changed the gas tank I at first had some minor problems getting ignition to fire and for the first time had to use a match now even that won't ignite grill- I read a "check regulator" suggestion , how does one do that or does it need to be serviced ?

When you turn the gas valve to High or Ignite you hear or smell gas going into the gas burner? If yes, then look at the position of the igniter in respect to the gas burner to see if it generates a spark either with or without gas running.. .. if you have gas entering the gas burner.. and if you've used the Grill a lot.. the jets may be clogged and need cleaned to allow gas flow thru them.. if the jets from the burner are clogged in or near the may not ignite easily untill you get lots of propane in the area.. Check the gas jets to make sure you have gas coming out and then check the igniter to make sure it generates a spark.. Hope that helps..
