Flame on gas grill is too small

I have a 2004 Kenmore grill and I only get a small flame on the three burners even when it is turned up to high. I have plenty of fuel in the tank and I made sure the tank was turned on.  Sears put the grill together and it never had a high flame.  Now I can't even grill a hamburger.  :( Please help me.  It is a $90 fee just to come to the house. Thank you, [email protected]

Flame on gas grill is too small

From: Symptoms and Solutions Low Flame: The grill just doesn't want to heat up. This can be cause by several things. Taking it from the fuel source to the flame, lets start with the burner. Newer propane tanks contain a self regulating feature that will automatically slow down the flow of fuel if it thinks it's too high. This can be solved by turning the tank valve off completely and disconnecting it. Open the control valves (on the grill control panel) and ten close them. Reconnect the fuel tank and slowly turn on the valve. Now light the grill to see if that fixes it. Otherwise check the control valve(s) and venturi tubes for obstruction and alignment. Make sure that the flow of fuel is continuous. Check the burner for clogged gas holes. You can usually see this problem by observing how the grill burns. If there are spots without flame then you probably have a clogged burner.

Yellow flame on the rear of my burner

Yellow is a "reducing" flame meaning low oxygen, whereas blue is an oxidizing flame. There is not enough air mixing with the gas. Clean out the pipes and free the air intake holes on the first stage of the burner assembly.

Yes, I have a Uniflame grill. The gas is turned on but the flame is very small coming out of the burners, takes 3 hours to cook a steak at this rate. Put new gas tank to see if tank had problem...Still small blue flame coming out of pipes. Do you think it is regulator'' I have had the grill 4 to 5 years. Mark

Check the regulator first, easy to do, not very expensive. If things do not improve, you can remove the burners and check for blockages in the valve orifices.

While grilling we had a flare up that quickly turned into thick black smoke rolling from our gas grill. we shut off the grill and got the flames out. what could have caused this? is it safe to try and turn the grill back on?

If you have a grill that is several years old, some of your burners may be rusted and deteriorating, causing these large, out-of-control flames. It's definitely not safe to us in this condition. Remove the cooking grids and all parts above the burners and examine each burner with a flash light. It's also possible the seams have split which may be harder to tell that it's defective. If you can remove each individual burner to inspect it, do it and and make sure there are no restrictions inside the burner, like bug nests, debris, etc that could clog it and force gas out the venturi tube at the orifice. If you had moved or transported the grill recently before using it this last time, it may have jostled something loose or caused the rusted burners to fall apart so quickly. Hope this helps. Let me know if you need more assistance. Douglas
